Bookjacket for Polish roots = Korzenie polskie

Polish roots = Korzenie polskie Polish roots = Korzenie polskie / Rosemary A. Chorzempa

This handbook for Polish American genealogy, first published in 1993, receives a much-needed update. Unchanged content includes narratives on civil and church records from the U.S. and Poland, lineage societies, geographical divisions, ethnic groups, and naming traditions. A glossary of Polish, Latin, and German terms in vital records and a Polish letter-writing guide will help researchers overcome the language barrier, while maps help to make sense of changing boundaries. New content includes an updated bibliography and a survey of online resources. Greater effort could have been made to integrate updates throughout the text. A new chapter mentions, for instance, that international reply coupons, suggested earlier in the text, have been discontinued. Still, this remains a solid, reasonably priced resource for Polish American genealogists and is recommended for circulating genealogy collections. (Copyright 2014 Booklist Reviews.)
