Library Storytime is a research-based program that intentionally supports reading acquisition for all families with birth to preschool-aged children.
Storytime honors and respects the commonalities and differences of all people by introducing and sharing books, fingerplays, rhymes, and other materials with children and their caregivers that celebrate the ideas and perspectives of people from all backgrounds including, but not limited to, age, race, culture, ability, gender identity and national origin.
The titles, activities, and materials we share promote a positive sense of self and help children see themselves and their lives reflected in ways that do not shame, isolate or limit them. These materials also help children see the diversity in the world and encourage them to explore and embrace it.
Resources used by staff for storytime planning include current publications, professional experiences such as continuing education workshops, library and education colleagues, input from community members, and other varied sources.
